Plain-English definitions for common terms used in study listings and screeners.
Screener and incentive
A screener is an eligibility questionnaire. An incentive is payment, a gift card, points or other compensation the provider advertises for completed participation.
Focus group and usability test
A focus group is a moderated group discussion. A usability test observes how someone uses a product or prototype to identify confusing or helpful parts.
Diary and longitudinal study
A diary study captures experiences repeatedly over days or weeks. A longitudinal study collects data at multiple points in time, often with follow-up activities.
