Privacy and Consent in Paid Research
What participants should review before sharing personal information, recording a session or signing an NDA.
Identify who is collecting data, what will be recorded, why it is needed, how long it may be kept and whether it may be shared. Consent should be informed and voluntary. An incentive does not remove your right to ask questions or decline unsafe requests.
Read the consent information
Look for the research company, purpose, data categories, recording method, retention, contact and withdrawal terms. Product research may use a shorter notice but should still explain material use.
Do not assume agreeing to a video call permits every future use of your image or voice. Ask when a requirement is unclear.
Share the minimum necessary
Screeners may need demographic or professional information, but not passwords or one-time codes. Use official secure verification.
During screen sharing, show only the needed window and protect messages, customer data, finances, health information and other people's identities.
Understand confidentiality
An NDA may prevent sharing unreleased concepts. Read its scope and duration. It does not grant permission to disclose information belonging to your employer or another person.
Keep a copy of agreements and contact details for later privacy questions.

Does an NDA require employer information?
