Paid research identity verification: check the process before sharing

Assess research identity checks through the official provider route. Understand what is requested, who receives it and how verification differs from selection.

Identify which check is happening

An email confirmation, identity document check, professional-background check and reward-account check establish different things. Read the request's purpose rather than treating all verification as a single badge. A provider may need to confirm an account belongs to a real person without establishing that the person meets a particular study's experience criteria.

Prolific's onboarding guide describes identity verification within its own process. It is evidence that such onboarding exists there, not permission for any recruiter to request documents. Check the actual provider's published workflow and the stage your account has reached before deciding whether a request fits.

Reach the process independently

When an unexpected message asks for documents, open the provider through a known official website or account route and inspect its help information. Confirm whether the message corresponds to an action shown there. A familiar name, copied logo or plausible explanation does not establish who controls an upload destination.

Read the destination carefully, including any third-party verification service identified by the provider. If the official instructions do not explain the destination, ask support using a contact you obtained independently. The paid research safety checklist provides a wider evaluation process. Do not send sensitive documents simply to keep an unconfirmed study place from expiring.

Understand what will be collected

Before beginning, check which document or capture is required, why it is needed, which organization receives it and where its privacy information is available. Look for retention and support information. Mark unanswered questions as unknown rather than importing assurances from another provider's process.

Prepare a private setting for a permitted capture and follow the official instructions. Do not alter a document or substitute another person's identity. Equally, do not assume that sending extra documents will accelerate approval. Provide only what the verified process requires. If a requested step crosses your boundary, pause and ask about alternatives or the consequences of declining.

Keep credentials outside the request

A request to confirm identity is not a reason to reveal a password, banking login or one-time authentication code to a researcher. Distinguish entering information yourself on a verified service from sending account access to another person. If the request asks someone else to operate your account, reassess it through official support.

Use the scam-awareness guide when a verification story is combined with pressure, payment demands or unexplained software. This is a practical check, not a guarantee that a process is safe. Scoutela cannot verify a document request merely because a listing mentions a recognizable provider.

Expect honest account information

Keep your stated name, residence and other requested account facts accurate, and follow the provider's correction route when something changes. Do not create a replacement identity to resolve a failed check or use a household member's verified account. Explain a mismatch to official support without assuming the reason or sending more sensitive material publicly.

UserTesting's contributor code emphasizes honest participant information and responses. That conduct guidance is specific to its service. The repeat participation guide explains why separate accounts are not a suitable way to bypass study limits or a previous participation question.

Separate verification from a research place

After completing an identity step, check the confirmed status. Pending review is not completed verification; completed verification is not acceptance into every study. You may still face topic screening, quotas, scheduling and completion requirements. Keep those stages distinct in your notes and any support request.

Scoutela helps discover opportunities through free public previews and paid provider details and application access under current pricing. Providers control their onboarding, selection and incentives. A Scoutela subscription cannot resolve another service's identity review. If an identity request remains unclear, contact that provider before applying further or uploading documents, and choose whether the process fits your own boundaries.

Common questions

Does a document request automatically mean a scam?

No. Some providers use identity checks, but verify the official process and purpose before sharing anything.

Does verified identity mean I qualify?

No. Study-specific eligibility and selection remain separate.

Can I use another person's verified account?

Do not substitute someone else's identity. Use the provider's official correction or support process for your own account.
