Diary studies: what participants need to know
How multi-day research diaries work and how to decide whether one fits your routine.
A repeated commitment
Diary studies ask participants to record experiences over several days or weeks. Check the frequency, expected time per entry and whether reminders are part of the study.
Consistency matters
Set reminders and complete entries close to the relevant activity where possible. If you miss an entry, follow the provider’s instructions rather than inventing details.
Review completion terms
Read the incentive conditions carefully. Some providers require a specified number of completed entries or a final interview.
